Two young gymnasts dance to drum and bass in their local gym. A magical and adrenaline-fuelled world, evoking the promise of freedom and the power of adrenaline of the early teenage years.

Collaboration with Hanna Gillgren (H2Dance) and Olympic gymnasts from Europa gym club, Erith.

Commissioned by Arts Council England.

"Rachel Davies's Gold succeeds on numerous levels. The graceful motions of its dancers impress on their own, but it's the manner in which the cinematography both contrasts and compliments these movements that truly makes the film work. At times it is bold, shape-based framings that divide the screen into strong foreground and background action. At others, it is fluid camera movement that closely follows the rapid movement of the dancers with a black background, drawing the focus onto the dancers themselves. The film's kinetic aesthetic is simply infectious."

Philip Bajorat, Shorts Programmer, 40th Chicago International Film Festival.
